  1. Full Fathom Five

From the recording Full Fathom Five

A drinking-and-drowning-your-sorrows song. I took the title from the immortal bard, William Shakespeare who wrote this in "The Tempest"

"Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that does fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell:
Ding-dong,
Hark! Now I hear them – Ding-dong, bell."

(This phrase must still ring true after all these years since it has also been used by writers such as Rand B Lee and Harlan Ellison)

Lyrics

Full Fathom Five

Another drifter lost at sea
Gonna let the ocean bury me
Gonna put my pain full fathom five
And use one more of my nine lives
Just one more of my nine lives

Hand me down my favorite song
I’m gonna sing it all night long
The melody it spins and falls
And echoes off these canyon walls

Upon the ocean there’s a storm
Acts on me like chloroform
Makes me sleepy makes me wise
Makes my brain philosophize

Another drifter lost at sea
Gonna let the ocean bury me
Gonna put my pain full fathom five
And use one more of my nine lives
Just one more of my nine lives Just one more of my nine lives
Just one more of my nine lives
Just one more of my nine lives
Just one more of my nine lives
Just one more of my nine lives Just one more of my nine lives
Just one more of my nine lives...
