About "Without A Net":
I wrote this for/about my great friend and muse Melissa Swetish/Dellos.
July 3rd....I was taking a quick nap before I went out to perform at "the Sloop John B." in Fort Lauderdale FL. I got a call from my friend Melissa's room-mate and found out she had died in a car accident a couple days earlier. I got drunk at work and later started writing the music for this song. I would come home drunk for weeks on end and I played this as loudly as possible, hoping a neighbor would complain so I could beat their ass.
One day after the funeral, with a hangover, I felt some release as I wrote the lyrics for her, like I do with all of my songs...
"Without A Net"
(Dean Madonia)
I remember falling
Calling out to you
And all the times you told me
My love would see me through
Closing every circle
With a little help from you
And I found my balance
As I reached up to you
I promised me
I promised to
Someday be a net
That you could fall into
I promised me
I promised to
Someday be a net
That you could fall into
On the night they called me
Woke me from my dreaming
Told me you had fallen
I couldn't stop the screaming
I couldn't stop the screaming
